  • Local 1776 supports Philadelphia teachers and their students
    Updated On: Nov 24, 2014
PFT President Jerry Jordan spoke to a crowd of more than 3,000 teachers and their supporters at a rally on October 16.

UFCW Local 1776 stands with Philadelphia School Teachers and their students!

On October 8, the School Reform Commission (SRC) made the disgraceful decision to cancel their union contract with the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers (PFT). Imposing terms unilaterally is an attack not only on more than 12,000 dedicated teachers, counsellors, school nurses, support personnel and the children they teach and care for — it also was a direct attack on collective bargaining.

Gov. Corbett has slashed funding for our schools since he took office. Students and teachers have paid the price for the last three years. Now, he has sent his SRC appointees to do his dirty work, attacking workers and our unions.

Teachers are the backbone of our school systems.  How we treat teachers sends a clear message to our children about what our priorities are.  Local 1776 and the PFT believe the education and well-being of students are top priority. UFCW Local 1776 is proud to stand with Philadelphia School Teachers and their students in their fight for a fair contract. Let's give our hard-working teachers and the students that have come to their defense in this fight the respect they deserve!
