    Updated On: Aug 06, 2015
Governor Tom Wolf takes the podium after taking the oath as Pennsylvania's 47th Governor.

Local 1776 welcomes Pennsylvania's 47th Governor Tom Wolf!  The people of Pennsylvania support Governor Wolf's vision for Pennsylvania -- one that is centered on empowering the middle class and securing the future for generations to come.  Read excerpts from the Governor's Inaugural address here.

PA Governor Tom Wolf and Lieutenant Governor Mike Stack were the two statewide Local 1776 Executive Board endorsed candidates in the November 2014 election.  Local 1776 members were receptive to the endorsement, with many volunteering their time to speak to fellow union members about the importance of this election.

“Local 1776 members saw the destruction Corbett’s administration created. Working people were directly affected by his anti-worker, anti-union agenda – one that cut education funding, left thousands without healthcare and was based on his extremist ideology.  His record spoke for itself this election and Pennsylvanians responded,” said Local 1776 President Wendell W. Young, IV.

    Young continued:

“Tom Wolf has taken the time to meet and speak with Local 1776 members on numerous occasions.  He’s not afraid to speak on behalf of the average worker, even if it goes against what many Harrisburg politicians favor."

On behalf of the entire Local 1776 membership and Executive Board, we are excited to work with Tom on issues that include raising the minimum wage, funding our schools, taxing drillers, modernizing the Pennsylvania Wine and Spirits Stores and supporting a workers’ right to choose representation on the job.

This Gubernatorial Election especially hit home for the Local’s 3,500 members who work in Pennsylvania’s publicly owned Wine and Spirits Stores.  Their jobs were under constant attack under the Corbett administration, whose top priority was to eliminate their jobs and destroy public sector unions.

Here's to a fresh start for Pennsylvania!  Our time is now!
