Need a Union?...
In the 1935, President Franklin Roosevelt signed into effect the National Labor Relations Act. This landmark bill guaranteed the rights of workers to form unions in their workplaces. As was the case then and even more so today, working people have the right to organize and bargain collectively with their employer. Officially, under Section 7 of National Labor Relations Act, “Employees shall have the right to self-organization, to form, join, or assist labor organizations, to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing, and to engage in other concerted activities for the purpose of collective bargaining or other mutual aid or protection…”
Why Union?Non-union employers can arbitrarily change your wages, benefits, working conditions and furthermore most companies are considered “at-will” employers. This means that you can be fired “at-will” without any formal reason whatsoever. When workers come together and bargain collectively with their employer they have more power to improve wages, benefits, and working conditions. Moreover, they get job security through a grievance process. When you have a union YOU have a VOICE in your work place!
