Tops Holding Corp., parent of Tops Markets LLC, reported first-quarter sales rose almost 8 percent though the Buffalo area’s largest grocer took a loss of $2.1 million.

SAYRE - The former P&C store at 1730 Elmira St. may soon be sold and re-branded as a "P&C Fresh" market if the Federal Trade Commission gives final approval to a pending transaction between Tops Markets and Hometown Markets, LLC.

Tops Markets is starting to think small.

The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry's website currently carries on the WARN (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) page a post showing that Tops Markets LLC is planning "massive layoffs" at the two P&C Markets in the Valley, affecting 106 jobs starting April 1.
