About the PLCB and Privatization
The Liquor Control Board was created by state law on November 29, 1933, at the end of Prohibition. Pennsylvania is one of 18 states—and two state of Maryland counties—in the U.S. that control the sale of alcohol. The agency is governed by a three-member Board, appointed by the Governor and confirmed by two-thirds of the state Senate. The Board appoints a Chief Executive Officer.
