Groundbreaking for New ShopRite in Philadelphia!

ShopRite Owner Jeff Brown continued his drive to open new supermarkets in underserved communities by breaking ground for a Local 1776-staffed store that will serve North Philadelphia, Southwest Germantown and East Falls.
Local 1776 President Wendell W. Young, IV, joined Brown and city and state officials to mark te beginning of construction for the 71,000-square-foot store. The newest ShopRite will anchor the 220,000 square-foot Bakers Square commercial development planned for 3413 Fox St. – a site formerly occupied by Tasty Baking.
Scheduled to open in the Fall of 2012, the Shop Rite and adjoining stores are expected to create more than 600 permanent jobs and 500 construction jobs. Brown’s Bakers Square store will follow the successful opening of his most recent supermarket last year at 52nd St. near Lancaster Ave. in West Philadelphia.
Taking part in the March 25th groundbreaking ceremonies with Young were Mayor Mike Nutter, State Sen. Vincent Hughes, State Rep. Jewell Williams and City Councilman Curtis Jones.
