Judge OKs A&P plan to close 13 Superfresh stores

A bankruptcy judge approved grocery chain operator Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co.'s GAPTQ -0.54% request to close 13 Superfresh locations that didn't appeal to bidders at a recent bankruptcy auction, a move that will further shrink the chain's East Coast footprint.
Judge Robert D. Drain signed an order Wednesday that allows the company to close 11 stores in Maryland and two stores in Delaware--locations that A&P deemed outside of its core market.
Shoppers can expect the stores to go dark by mid-July.
