Scranton Firefighters Honor 1776’s Chris Snyder

It took a while for the President of the Scranton Firefighters Union to catch up to Local 1776 Union Representative Chris Snyder, but he finally did it at the May 24th meeting of  Local 1776’s Executive Board in Pittston, PA.

That’s when Dave Gervasi, the head of the Scranton Firefighters

IAFF Local 60, told board members that when Snyder headed the Northeast Pennsylvania Area Labor Federation before joining Local 1776 staff, he went out of his way to help the firefighters in their eight-year campaign for a new contract.

“Chris came to us and made the resources of the labor community available to us,” Gervasi said.  “Our members hadn’t had raises in eight years, and Chris’ help was instrumental in our final success.”

Gervasi explained that he had prepared a plaque to present to Chris at the firefighters' annual dinner in 2008, but a prior commitment prevented Chris  from attending.  After spending almost three years trying presnt Chis with his plaque, Gervasi surprised Chris with a presentation at the Local’s Executive Board meeting.

The plaque reads, “Scranton Firefighters IAFF Local 60 presents to Christopher Snyder with heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for your tireless effort in support of the Scranton Firefighters and community at large.”
