On March 2 and 3, more than 315 Local 1776KS shop stewards converged in “Happy Valley” – State College, PA – for a two-day educational conference at the Teamster-represented Penn Stater Hotel.

There were 15 educational and training sessions on a wide range of topics from nuts-and-bolts skills like grievance processing, to the UFCW free college benefit, through safety and mental health challenges and solutions in the workplace.  Other issues such as retirement planning and our groundbreaking efforts to unionize our state’s growing cannabis industry were also addressed.

Twenty-five provider stations were open where stewards could discuss services available to our members and pick up information to take back to their locations.

Our group was pleased to welcome elected officials to the conference, including PA Governor Tom Wolf, Lt. Governor John Fetterman, and State Rep Scott Conklin.

“I was gratified at the level of participation,” said President Wendell Young IV, “I was energized by the sheer complexity and growing number of issues and challenges that our team continues to address on behalf of 35,000 members,” adding that the Local is larger, more diverse and stronger than ever.
