Dear UFCW Local 1776 members,
Happy Thanksgiving! Normally we would be preparing to gather with family or putting the final touches on plans for hosting a big meal at our homes but this year is very different. The Covid-19 pandemic has upended our lives in so many ways. Within our local many members have been infected and sadly some members have died from this terrible virus.
It’s very hard to forego the traditional family Thanksgiving celebration but I want to be very clear: full tables this week could mean empty chairs by Christmas. There have been thousands of cases where families gathered indoors and people were later infected and died from Covid-19, even people who didn’t attend the initial event.
We still have many things to be thankful for and each day we learn of new advancements in medical treatment and potential vaccines for the virus. We can all do our part by continuing to wear masks when we leave our homes, washing our hands and keeping a good social distance in public.
We must be vigilant so that we have family and friends to visit once the virus has been eradicated.
As I’ve said from the very beginning, together, responsibly we will beat Covid-19.

¡Feliz día de Acción de gracias! En épocas normales, nos estaríamos preparando para reunirnos con la familia o dando los toques finales a los planes para organizar una gran comida en nuestra casa, pero este año es muy diferente. La pandemia de Covid-19 nos ha alterado la vida de muchas maneras. Muchas personas pertenecientes a nuestro local se han contagiado y lamentablemente algunas fallecieron a causa de este terrible virus.
Es muy difícil renunciar a la tradicional celebración familiar de Acción de gracias, pero quiero ser muy claro: las mesas llenas esta semana podrían significar sillas vacías en Navidad. Ha habido miles de casos en los que las familias se reunieron en ambientes cerrados y luego hubo contagios y fallecimientos a causa de Covid-19, incluso de personas que no habían asistido a la reunión inicial.
Todavía tenemos muchas cosas que agradecer y cada día nos enteramos de nuevos avances en el tratamiento médico y posibles vacunas contra el virus. Todos y todas podemos hacer nuestra parte si continuamos usando máscaras cuando salimos de casa, lavándonos las manos y manteniendo una buena distancia social en público.
Tenemos que estar alertas para tener familiares, amigas y amigos a quienes visitar una vez que se haya erradicado el virus.
Como vengo diciendo desde el principio, conjunta y responsablemente venceremos a la Covid-19.
