  • UFCW Local 1776 Calls on Elected Leaders to Prioritize Vaccine Access for Essential, Front Line workers
    Updated On: Dec 29, 2020

Plymouth Meeting, PA December 12th 2020 – This morning, Local 1776 President Wendell Young, IV calling on leaders in local, state and federal levels of government to prioritize frontline, essential workers like the members of UFCW for vaccinations against Covid-19.

Since the beginning of this pandemic, members of Local 1776 have continued to step up and serve their communities. These essential industries: meatpacking, food processing and manufacturing, pharmacies and grocery stores have remained open for business despite the dangers of the Covid-19 pandemic. Public sector workers continue to keep our streets safe and clean. Food processing workers continue to produce food for our families to eat. Workers in grocery stores and pharmacies in particular have been assisting hundreds of customers daily, thousands weekly, helping ensure they have everything they need in one of the worst pandemics in modern history.

“Our members can’t work from home. There’s no way to use Zoom to provide groceries or package fruits and vegetables. These essential workers have been on the front lines of this pandemic from the very beginning and deserve to be vaccinated early.” Pres. Young continued, “Wall Street, Hollywood and pro-athletes should not be at the head of the line for vaccinations; our members that nourish and feed our communities by processing food and keeping our grocery stores stocked should be protected in recognition of their essential role and work.”
