Hershey Stewards Have a Sweet Meeting
Updated On: Jul 11, 2017
PITTSTON – (03/29/2017) UFCW 1776 invests heavily in educating stewards because the Local recognizes how important it is for our members to have the best representation possible. Today, stewards from the Hazleton Hershey Plant met at the UFCW Local 1776 Pittston Office to learn about grievance handling, workers’ compensation and the importance of stopping “work for less” laws.
Local 1776 Hershey stewards do an exceptional job as workplace advocates. Over the years, they have gone above and beyond to ensure their co-workers are treated with dignity and respect. This group has seen tough negotiations, and they’ve weathered the unpredictable ebbs and flows of the candy industry.
Recently, Hershey announced international layoffs. Fortunately, the members working at the Hazleton plant won’t likely be affected.
The more than 400 Local 1776 members at Hershey-Hazleton make a variety of confectionaries including Cadbury, Caramello and Kit Kat products. Their worksite is in the foothills of the Pocono Mountains. Local 1776 is honored to represent this group of hard-working individuals, and the Union is proud of the work we do training the Stewards to be leaders.
