Dear UFCW 1776KS Member,
Throughout this pandemic, one thing has remained true. You have taken your role as an essential, front-line worker seriously and have served your community well by your diligence in wearing a mask or face shield, keeping your work place clean and sanitized and promoting the safety protocols. Thanks to your effort and commitment, we have realized far fewer infections and deaths among our members.
I know that this hasn’t been easy for you. More than 800 of our members have contracted Covid-19 and sadly seven of our members died from this terrible virus. You’ve dealt with fear and uncertainty for yourselves and your families while simultaneously dealing with some rude, obnoxious and unsafe behavior from others.
Unfortunately, those in denial about the facts of this virus haven’t learned anything and continue to be difficult and dangerous. At the same time, many employers have discontinued their pandemic pay bonus. A few weeks ago, I sent a letter to all employers in Pennsylvania urging them to apply for the state’s grant program for hazard pay. Some of the employers have applied, however, an application is not a guarantee that the grant will be approved.
Our union representatives continue to urge every single one of our employers to provide pandemic benefits.
The Covid-19 pandemic is far from over and you are all feeling the brunt of people’s fear, anxiety and outright ignorance. I will continue to pressure employers to do the right thing and resume pandemic pay until this crisis is over.

Hay una cosa que siguió siendo cierta durante esta pandemia. Ustedes se han tomado muy en serio la tarea como trabajadoras y trabajadores esenciales de primera línea y se han ocupado bien de la comunidad con diligencia al usar máscaras o protectores faciales, mantener limpios y desinfectados los lugares de trabajo y promover protocolos de seguridad. Gracias al esfuerzo y compromiso de ustedes, ha habido muchos menos contagios y muertes entre nuestros miembros.
Sé que no ha sido fácil para ustedes. Más de 800 de nuestros afiliados y afiliadas han contraído Covid-19 y, lamentablemente, siete de nuestros miembros fallecieron a causa de este terrible virus. Ustedes han hecho frente al miedo y la incertidumbre por ustedes y por sus familias, al tiempo que tienen que lidiar con el comportamiento desagradable, repugnante y riesgoso de otros.
Lamentablemente, quienes niegan lo que está sucediendo con este virus no han aprendido nada y siguen siendo difíciles y peligrosos. Al mismo tiempo, muchos empleadores dejaron de pagar la prima por la pandemia. Hace unas semanas, envié una carta a todos los empleadores de Pensilvania instándolos a presentarse al programa estatal de prestaciones por condiciones de vida peligrosas. Algunos se presentaron, sin embargo, haberlo hecho no es garantía de que serán aceptados en el programa.
Nuestros y nuestras representantes sindicales continúan instando a todos y cada uno de los empleadores a dar beneficios por la pandemia.
