Dear Local 1776 Tops Markets Member:
Late this morning, Local 1776 was notified Tops Markets intends to merge with Price Chopper Supermarkets/Market 32. This merger would result in a combined company with nearly 300 stores that stretch from Erie, Pennsylvania, through Western/Central New York and into the New England states of Vermont and New Hampshire. We are monitoring this proposed merger very closely and will ensure that our members interests are preserved and advocated for in the weeks and months ahead.
Rest assured, Local 1776 members that are employed by Tops Markets have Collective Bargaining Agreements that remain in full force and effect; including the most recently ratified agreement for the Wellsboro, Westfield, Canton and Troy stores located within our North-Central Division along with the current agreements in place for the Meadville, Kane, Waterford and Sheffield stores in the Western Division. Therefore, please know that your Health and Welfare, Retirement & Savings and scheduled wage increases remain as is. Should Local 1776 receive any further details or information about this proposed merger, we will keep you informed with updates via email, mail and on the Locals Facebook page and website. For any questions you may have, please contact your Union Representative.
Thank you for your tireless efforts as essential frontline heroes during this COVID-19 pandemic.
In Solidarity,
Wendell Young, IV
