  • UFCW 1776 Helps over 600 Members Become Naturalized Citizens
    Updated On: Mar 07, 2022

UFCW Local 1776 has helped over 600 members and their families become naturalized citizens of the United States.

Unfortunately, becoming a citizen is an extremely difficult and costly process. Many individuals will pay $1,000-$3,000 in legal fees just to get through the application process. Through our Union Citizen Action Program (UCAN), we have trained UFCW 1776 staff and stewards to become experts on navigating this process. We have conducted more than 30 different workshops where members and their families have been assisted with legal services, free of charge.

Our very own North Central Division Director, Chris Snyder, has been a key factor in making this program happen “My wife is from the Republic of Peru and I know what she went through to become a naturalized citizen. It is an unfair, lengthy, and costly process.”

In addition to the workshops conducted to provide free legal services and guidance, UFCW Local 1776 has established the Dream Fund to offset the cost of applying (Which is currently $725). To date, we have awarded over 45 scholarships through this Fund!

This continued success could not be possible without our hard-working staff and members here at UFCW 1776. They dedicate much of their time to make this dream a reality for so many of our members!
