EAST PETERSBURG, PA, March 21, 2024 – Cannabis workers at Restore Dispensary in East Petersburg in Lancaster County have voted to join UFCW Local 1776, the first step in establishing better wages and working conditions for the 20 employees at this location.
Most East Petersburg Restore employees have been working at the location for over a year, and voiced concerns regarding unfair workloads, workplace safety and earning a livable wage. These concerns were unacknowledged by management and remain unchanged. After seeing workers at the Restore Dispensary in Elkins Park successfully join UFCW Local 1776 last June, East Petersburg workers realized establishing a union at their dispensary was possible.
“These workers exercised their right to organize and join our Union so they can earn better wages, improve working conditions and establish a voice in the workplace,” said UFCW 1776 President Wendell Young IV. “We look forward to bargaining in good faith as we work towards a first contract.”
Young added, “As Pennsylvannia’s Union for Cannabis workers, we will continue fighting for workers in this industry.”
UFCW Local 1776 represents nearly 1,600 workers at 23 cannabis locations across Pennsylvania.
